I hope that the start of the year is going well! For many, the start of the year doesn’t feel very special as it just turns out to be similar to all the days of the past! Most of those days were determined by our habits!
In the past, we’ve mindlessly unlocked our phones repeatedly. Social media apps have taken over our lives these days and even what little free time we have is gone. I am not going to go into the harm or benefits of this. I have a suggestion for 2024: “Allow yourself to get bored!”
What I meant was to have times when we are not flooding our minds with entertainment, multiple images, cat videos, etc. Just feeding nothing into our minds! It’s going to be tough! We will have to try and resist the urge to settle back into our usual habits!
Why am I suggesting this? I believe that “Boredom is good”! It gives us time to think and evaluate our lives. It can inspire us to build better habits or hobbies! It might make us social too! Most of the things that we have (and take for granted) are things that people made in their free time! We may think that we are living in a modern world and are smarter than them! Most of us cannot create those things in our current environment. This could be because we have not given time to develop ourselves.
I am sure that many have read the blog post of how I got into making sculptures (if not,click here). It took me an illness to slow down and get bored. This led me to try different things and one accidental realization led me to try out sculpting.
Who knows what your mind and circumstances will lead you into? Maybe making sculptures, authoring a book, creating a new game, or making the next thing that revolutionizes our world. This is how you can be more creative than the past! Let yourself get bored and see what lies in front of you. Pursue different things and become a better person!
